This easy fix will save you about $200-300.
Here is the fix for this. I did mine and it still works perfect after several .months, took about 30mins, easy to follow the instructions and pictures given by dakota_viking on ford-trucks.com/forums.
You’ll need these tools. 9/32 or 7mm sockets, No.15-Torqx bit or a tiny socket may even work, a flathead screwdriver.
You’ll need a simple soldering iron/pencil, 30Watt is plenty.
Most auto parts stores and even wall-mart have these around $6-7. Soft cloth to place between dash plastic and screwdriver or other pry tool.
The odometer is insided the instrument cluster and is easy to remove. You have to remove the headlight switch, the cover just above the steering column, and the panel that houses the headlight switch and also goes around the cluster. Once that is out, just remove 4 bolts, 2 connectors and the gear display (just squeeze tabs and remove). With that, the cluster is out of the dash and in your hands. The source of the problem, you will find, is a poor solder joint. For more details follow the link below. Best wishes!
